Overhead crane drive units control bridge and trolley travel under load. A complete drive package combines the motor, reducer, brake and wheel assembly, with VFD control where smooth acceleration and positioning are required. The units should be selected around travel speed, wheel load, duty, rail condition and power supply instead of motor power alone.
Typical use: bridge travel drives, trolley travel drives, gantry crane long travel and crane modernization projects.
Stable bridge, trolley or gantry movement.
Motor, reducer, brake and wheel reviewed together.
Smooth acceleration and less shock.
Useful for crane modernization.
Uneven travel, hard starts and inconsistent braking increase wheel and rail wear and make load positioning more difficult. A well-matched drive package gives the bridge or trolley more predictable acceleration, running speed and stopping.
For bridge travel, both end-carriage drive units should be checked as one system. Wheel diameter, output speed, reducer ratio, brake release, mounting dimensions, rail condition and electrical control all affect whether the crane travels without skewing or binding.
For replacement work, compare the existing nameplate, wheel and rail data before ordering. Replacing one unit without checking the opposite side can leave the two sides running at different speeds.
Crane drive units provide controlled horizontal movement. On a single girder overhead crane or double girder overhead crane, bridge drives move the crane along the runway while trolley drives move the hoist across the span.
Drive bridge movement along runway rails.
Control load movement across the span.
Move outdoor cranes along ground rails.
Replace outdated motors, reducers and brakes.
Improve movement consistency in frequent operation.
Configure drives around wind, rail and duty conditions.
Final configuration depends on travel direction, required speed, wheel diameter, wheel load, duty, rail condition, supply voltage, mounting space and the control method. New cranes and retrofit projects need different installation checks.
For long travel movement along the runway.
For cross travel on hoist or trolley units.
For smoother acceleration, deceleration and positioning.
VFD control can reduce shock and load swing.
Drive selection checks wheel load and rail condition.
Mounting dimensions and electrical interface matter for upgrades.
Send the crane type, travel direction, required speed, wheel diameter, rail model, power supply and existing drive photos. SUNFACRANE will check a practical replacement or new-build drive package.
